Genre Conventions (Content)
·     Mainly movies about Teenager or Young Adults
·     There is some sort of Moral Growth
·     A goal is set and achieved
·     There is some sort of personal growth from the protagonist. 
·     It relied on dialogue and emotional response to the dialogue 
Genre Conventions (Production Techniques)
·     Scenes focus mainly on the protagonist and their interactions
·     The movie boyhood filmed over a period 11 Years to fully portray the growth of character
·      Movies will usually have a light mood, not anything to serious, action scenes are not seen in these movies. 
·      It focuses on dilemmas and problems that the main character faces. 
·     Most Coming of Age movies include some sort of narration from the protagonist looking back at the events of their childhood.
·     Every single plot point all connects to the growth of the character. 

Institutional Conventions (Marketing)
·      These movies are mainly marketed to teenagers and young adults.
·      The trailer usually portrays basic dilemmas that young adults go through. 
·      They mainly use emotional appeals and ethical dilemmas.
·      The advertisement must use basic stereotypes and show how the stereotypes are overcome.

·      The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Analysis: This movie is based mainly on Charlie and his battle with depression. This is the perfect portrayal of a coming-of-age movie. The storyline follows Charlie’s move to a new school and the friendships he makes. It takes on the emotional responses of his interactions and the people who he meets. The whole point of the movie is to deal with Charlies repression of sexual abuse from his aunt, and the plot culminates with Charlie discovering this and making his friendships stronger. It shows the coming-of-age theme because in the end Charlie has dealt with his Psychological problem and he has grown to overcome depression.

·      Boyhood
Analysis: This movie is one of the most popular coming-of-age movies, this movie used all of the basic conventions of a coming-of-age movie and expanded it over the course of 11 years, focusing mainly on the actors physical and emotional changes. A cinematic masterpiece that took into account the personality changes that all teenager go through and how the character dealt with it. This movie is the epitome coming-of- age because of the flow of the storyline, with the main problem presented at the beginning and the development of the character with this difficulty already presented. Many of the problems the character faces and creates are highly influence by the major conflict. The movie culminates with the resolution of his hardships and the audience gets to see the young man that the protagonist turned into.
